‘Matrix 4’ Officially a Go With Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Lana Wachowski

Time to get excited folks, a new Matrix is in the works, here’s the exclusive report from Variety:

Get ready to re-enter the Matrix.

Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct a fourth film set in the world of “The Matrix,” with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film. Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich made the announcement on Tuesday.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” said Emmerich. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

In addition to Wachowski, the script was also written by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski is also producing with Grant Hill. Sources say the film is eyed to begin production at the top of 2020.

Warner Bros. has been trying for the last of couple years to find a way to get back into “The Matrix” universe, but a hold-up over producing rights slowed the project down. Over the past couple of months, the studio saw an opportunity to ramp up development, with Reeves boasting a strong summer that included box office hits “John Wick 3” and “Toy Story 4” and a script from Wachowski that drummed up excitement.

Plot details are currently unknown, as is how the role of Morpheus will be handled, originally played by Laurence Fishburne. Some sources say the role may be recast for a younger take.

The three previous films —“The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” — have collectively earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office. All three were written and directed by Lana and her sister, Lilly, and starred Reeves and Moss.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Wachowski said.

The first “Matrix” had its 20th anniversary this year, marked by special screenings at select AMC locations starting on Aug. 30.

Wachowski is represented by WME, Circle of Confusion and attorney Peter Grossman. Reeves is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham. Moss is represented by WME, longtime manager Elizabeth Hodgson and attorney Bob Lange.

John Wick Is In Trouble For Chapter 3

Keanu Reeves attended the NY Comic Con where he talked about his upcoming projects:

New York Comic Con has packed in some big names and big events this week, but one of the headline stealers would have to be Keanu Reeves. The 53-year old was out and about promoting his part in the 2017 science-fiction thriller Replicas, yet it would be his role in a number of beloved properties that would take up much of his time with the press.

The first of which would be John Wick: Chapter 3, with the sequel scoring an official release date of May 17, 2019. With everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Tilda Swinton linked to the blockbuster, as well as a television series spinoff and a mooted crossover with Atomic Blonde, Reeves intimated that the hero might not make it through to title number 4 (if there is one).

With the anti-hero being left in something of a precarious position for John Wick: Chapter 2, Reeves outlined how he and filmmaker Chad Stahelski were working on the screenplay for the third installment. It is a bit obvious to say that a man hunted down by assassins is in trouble, but that must be something else judging by the first two films in the series.

“John Wick – John Wick’s in trouble!” he proclaimed. “So we’ve been working on it and I think we have some good ideas. Yeah, some really good ideas. But John’s in trouble. Hopefully we can start shooting that next year. Chad and I thought it was hard to make a second one. And now we’re like…a third one?!”

Another project that is in the pipeline is Bill & Ted 3, a long awaited sequel to 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Whereas John Wick: Chapter 3 has a date locked in despite a script that is still in the works, this comedy adventure piece is in the opposite scenario.

“We’re trying,” he said. “There’s a script out there. We’re just trying to get it made. Show business is tough. It’s a cautionary tale. They’re supposed to save the world. But when we see them they haven’t saved the world and they’re married and have kids. And they’re playing to nobody. … But they have to write the song… and face the music! Hopefully we’ll make it before I’m 60.”

John Wick: Chapter 3 Gets a release date!

The third installment in Lionsgate/Summit’s Keanu Reeves shoot-em-up franchise, John Wick: Chapter 3 is locked and loaded to open on May 17, 2019. John Wick: Chapter Two, which opened in early February, was a huge surprise at the winter box office, debuting to $30M and finaling at $92M stateside, $171.5M worldwide.

The first John Wick, though it only made $88.8M at the global B.O., was a huge hit on home entertainment, hence the reason why Lionsgate proceeded with a sequel. To date, both John Wick pics count $260.3M at the worldwide box office.

Currently, John Wick:Chapter 3 is the only film scheduled on its current release date, and precedes Disney’s live-action version of Aladdin from Guy Ritchie which is opening on May 24, as well as Warner Bros.’ Minecraft movie.

Chad Stahelski who helmed part 2 and the original 2014 version returns for a third time. Ditto for screenwriter Derek Kolstad who has penned the first two movies.
